OBITUARY
IRENE KELLY KANE
December 9, 1944 – May 13, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Irene Kelly Kane (Irene Marie Kelly), age 80, of Hershey’s Mill in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
Irene was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother. She is survived by her beloved husband, Roger; her sons Brian (Lisa), Andrew (Tina), and Kelly (Jen); three granddaughters; seven grandsons; her sister Nancy; and brothers James and Peter.
A lifelong learner and dedicated professional, Irene earned two Bachelor’s degrees from Immaculata University and two Master’s degrees from Temple University. She began her career teaching in Philadelphia’s inner-city schools for thirteen years, before shifting her focus to Therapeutic Recreation. She served as Director of Therapeutic Recreation at Inglis House (then known as the Home for Incurables), helping enrich the lives of residents with her compassion and leadership.
Irene later earned her Pennsylvania State Nursing Home Administrator’s License and became Assistant Director and Administrator at Martin’s Run in Broomall, PA. During her tenure, the facility was awarded top-rated status by the state for ten consecutive years. She retired in 2013, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and care.
Never one to slow down, Irene took on new challenges and adventures throughout her life. At age 50, she completed the Rock & Roll Half and Full Marathons at Disney World. Over the next decade, she impressively completed more than 20 half marathons across eight states. At age 60, she ran another full marathon in Disney. At 65, she took up golf and became an avid player, averaging four rounds a week in recent years.
Irene had a remarkable ability to connect with others and build lasting friendships. She was talented, respected, fun-loving, and always greeted the world with a welcoming smile and generous spirit. She will be profoundly missed by her golf companions, friends from all walks of life, and most especially by her loving family.
