Helen Morris Obituary

Helen Esther Morris (nee Martens) was born November 21, 1931 in Okawville, IL.  She was baptized, confirmed and married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Okawville, and graduated from Okawville High School in 1949.  She worked for many years at the Illinois Department of Highways in Belleville IL before her marriage.

In 1956, she married her beloved Robert and they moved to Collingdale, PA.  In 1961, they relocated to Springfield (Delco) PA and raised their family.  Helen lived in Springfield for 62 years.

Early in her married life, Helen was employed as a secretary for United Engineers in Philadelphia.  Then for several decades she worked for a succession of State Farm insurance agents, utilizing her great attention for details and eventually gaining certification.

Helen was an avid Phillies fan and closely followed the players and the ups and downs of their seasons; the start of spring training brought joy.  Go Phillies, always!   She and Bob loved their many travels over the years, including annual trips to visit her family and farmstead each summer.  She also enjoyed tending to the yard and tracking all the busy activity at her birdfeeder.  Her most beloved activity was spending time with her grandsons who she adored.

Helen was a devoted member of St John Lutheran Church in Springfield, where she sustained her spiritual faith and made lifelong friendships.  She dearly loved and treasured her church family.

Preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Robert (Bob) Morris, her son Stephen Morris, and her sister Marian Martens (Okawville, IL).  Survived by her daughters Diane Morris (Philadelphia, PA) and Susan Morris (Newtown Square, PA), grandchildren Matthew and Stephen Toner (Newtown Square, PA), brother Norman (Jewel) Martens (Okawville, IL), sister-in-law Judy (Jerry) Kurz (O’Fallon, IL), beloved nieces and nephews Deborah Martens (Mark Chiodini) and Kyle Martens (Donna Roseman), Carol (Nathan) Kalkwarf and Darren (Lori) Fisher, and her grandnieces, grandnephews, and godchildren.
