Frederick “Fred” Livingston Funk, of Baltimore, MD, formerly of Newtown Square, passed away peacefully at his home at the age of 56. His battle with brain cancer over the past year demonstrated his courage in facing life challenges with a positive attitude.
Born in Bryn Mawr Hospital on January 10, 1966, Fred was a son of Frederick J. Funk of Newtown Square and the late Carolyn B. (nee Buck) Funk. Fred earned his BS in Industrial Engineering from Virginia Tech and later earned his MBA from the University of Maryland.
Fred worked for the past 30 years in the intelligence, DoD and commercial markets. Most recently, Fred served as the Chief Growth Officer with Everwatch, a leading provider of advanced solutions to the defense and intelligence communities. Fred also established his own LLC, Funk Advisory Group, where he provided consulting to a variety of organizations. Fred served on the Board of CyberCore Technologies. He also served on the Board of Maryland Therapeutic Riding, a non-profit focused on improving the quality of life of children, adults, active military, and veterans with special needs by connecting humans and horses in a healing environment.
Fred loved to work hard and play harder. He was a sports enthusiast, who loved his Va Tech Hokies, Baltimore Ravens and Orioles. He would consider himself an oenophile and was passionate with discovering and visiting unique vineyards. When it came to travel, the beach is where he headed. One of his favorite destinations was Sint Maarten. He shared his adventures with his loving partner of 17 years, Suzanne Michelle Rogers.
In addition to Suzanne, Fred is survived by his father, Fred J. Funk and brother Stephen W. Funk of Newtown Square and two nieces, Marion Seigle of Clemmons, NC and Rachel Funk of Newtown Square.
