Fred Malcom Barsam, Jr., 99, of Gladwyne, passed away peacefully in Lankenau Hospital on Sunday, July 24, 2022. He was the devoted husband of Judith E. (nee Edwards) Barsam. The couple married May 29, 1977 in Broomall and shared 45 years of marriage this May.
Born in Newton, MA on November 2, 1922, he was the only child of Fred Malcom, Sr and Alice (nee Aslan) Barsam. He was a 1944 graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, earning a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. After he graduated from MIT in 1944, he stayed at the college to teach the, then new, technology of radar to students from the military.
During his career he worked in many companies including Burroughs Corp. & Raytheon. He finished his professional life at Unisys in Blue Bell.
Fred was an avid photographer including underwater photography. He created and narrated slide shows which he presented in schools and to organizations. These shows included going up the Orinoco River through the Jungles of Venezuela to Angel Falls, life on the reefs of the Bahamas and scenes of the desert in Arizona flowering in the spring.
He and his wife enjoyed many adventures together. They did scuba diving in the Bahamas and Bermuda. Fred acted as organizer and captain of bareboat charters sailing in Mass., the Chesapeake Bay, The Virgin Islands and the Grenadines. In addition they traveled extensively in the United States and Eastern Canada.
Fred's favorite phrase was "Nothing Is Impossible" and that is how he lived, always trying new experiences and new ideas, creating solutions to simple and complicated problems, and helping others any way he could.
In addition to his wife, Judith; Fred is survived by his cousin, Michael Yeshilian.
Services will be scheduled at a later date.
