Francis Xavier Colgan, 83

A resident of Brookhaven for 55 years, passed away on August 24, 2020.  Beloved husband of 61 years to Arlene Kay (nee Thompson) Colgan, loving father of F. Michael, Dennis, and Barry (Mary Beth), cherished grandfather to Taylor and Caitlin.  He is the son of Francis Xavier Sr. and Mary Agnes (nee Enright) Colgan. 

 

Born in Yeadon, PA, he was a graduate of Saint Louis Grade School, Saint Joseph’s Preparatory School, Villanova University and Drexel University.  Fran worked in finance and served as the CFO of Exide Technologies and Penn Emblem.  Fran spent his retirement speaking to and helping senior citizens with financial decisions.  He was a volunteer serving as ombudsman for Wallingford Nursing Home, provided Medicare counseling through Apprise and tax preparation for senior citizens through AARP. 

 

Fran loved sports and was a Basketball coach for Our Lady of Charity CYO and Brookhaven Biddy League.  He participated and earned medals in the Delaware County Senior Games.  He participated in retreats at the Malvern Retreat House.  Fran was a Eucharistic Minister for the parishioners of Saint Rose of Lima administering communion during mass and at the homes of anyone who could not attend mass.

 

Fran loved to play golf, spend time with family and friends, the Flyers, seeing plays at the Dupont Theater and his trips with Arlene to Mackinac Island, Michigan.

 

Francis will be laid to rest at Valley Forge Memorial Gardens, interment will be private.  A memorial mass will be scheduled at a later date.

 

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to St. Rose of Lima Church, 1901 Chester Pike, Eddystone, PA 19022.
