Frances M. Rafferty of Townsend, MA formerly of East Lansdowne, PA passed away on February 26, 2020 at the age of 97. Animal lover. Sister of the late John E. Rafferty. Loving Aunt of Sean (Kimberly) Rafferty and Linda A. (Karl Sandhu) Rafferty. Great-aunt of Matthew & Sean Rafferty.
Frances was always a kind, gentle and compassionate soul. She was born and raised in East Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, where she attended St. Cyril’s Elementary School, and then onto the Academy of Notre Dame. Francis graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1946 with a BA in Liberal Arts. After college, she worked for Globe Ticket Company, John Wannamaker’s and the Federal Government. Her final assignment before retirement was that of the Director of Procurement at Ft. Devon’s Army Base in Ayer, Massachusetts.
Frances loved New England and especially MA, as she continued to make it her adopted home even after retiring from Federal Service. Frances split her years in New England between Littleton and Townsend and shared many great times there with her family. Frances was always very generous and wouldn’t think twice about helping a stranger. Frances loved animals and nature and was one of those rare folks who would stop to smell the roses and appreciate the gift. She was always a Chatty Cathy and loved by all who knew her. She will be missed greatly but her family will always have the memories of spending time with her at Kimball’s, Main St. Long Lake Beach, Black Pond, and many other fine memories of the little woman with a big heart who always lit up your day, and made you feel that everything will work itself out.
Frances lived with several personal struggles. Being 97, legally blind and less than 100 pounds did not stop her from living life the way she wanted to live it. Even with all those issues, she was never negative, nor did she feel sorry for herself. When she needed help taking out the trash, she would order Patriot Pizza, and tip the delivery kid to take out her trash. Frances was as resourceful as she was witty. Frances always did it her way with respect and dignity, as she was a true lady who was blessed to be able to leave this earth on her own terms. We love you Frances and will miss you greatly!!!
