Ernest Zeilinger Obituary

Ernest Stephen Zeilinger, affectionately known as Ernie, passed away on September 17, 2025, in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and music. Born on August 26, 1948, in David City, Nebraska, to the late Thomas Leroy and Sylvia Dorothea Zeilinger, Ernie grew up surrounded by the warmth of a large and loving family. He was a cherished brother to Marty Ford, Sara Sevey and her husband, the late Mike, David Zeilinger and his wife, Sharon, Joanne Zeilinger and the late Philip and George Zeilinger. His life was further enriched by his daughter, Katy A. Zeilinger and her fiancé, Vince M. Curran, and his former spouse and good friend, Samie Sue (Heidecker) Dozor. Ernie was preceded in death by his beloved spouse, the late Deborah Jones.

Ernie's professional life was as vibrant as his personal one. For many years, he was a revered Sound Engineer at Community Light and Sound in Chester, where he honed his craft and left an indelible mark on the world of audio production. Prior to this, he traveled and worked with various musicians, with the highlight of his career being his time spent mixing sound for the legendary John Denver. His passion for music was evident in every note he balanced and every performance he enhanced.

Beyond his work, Ernie was a man of diverse interests and a heart full of passion. A member of the Swarthmore United Methodist Church, he lived his faith and shared it through his actions and kindness. He also belonged to a local quilting club, where he stitched together not only fabrics but also friendships that would last a lifetime. His quilts were as thoughtful and loving as his demeanor, warming both body and soul.

Christmas music was a year-round joy for Ernie, much to the delight and amusement of those around him. His love for the festive tunes was matched only by his talent in the kitchen, particularly when it came to baking cookies. These sweet treats were eagerly anticipated by family and friends alike, especially during the holidays.

Ernie's penchant for romance and comedy found a perfect outlet in his love for Hallmark Channel RomComs. He enjoyed the light-hearted escapism they provided.

Described by those who knew him as thoughtful, loving, and faith-filled, Ernie's presence was a gift to all. His gentle spirit and generous heart left an indelible impression on everyone he met. He will be remembered for his laughter, his comforting hugs, and the subtle way he made the world a brighter place.

Ernie Zeilinger's journey through life was one of melody, warmth, and devotion. As we say farewell to this extraordinary man, we celebrate the harmony he brought to our lives. His memory will continue to resonate within the hearts of his family, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and the countless friends who were blessed to know him. Ernie's song may have ended, but his melody lingers on.
