Ernest A. Ellis, III

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ernest “Ernie” A. Ellis III of Swarthmore, Pa formerly of Yeadon, Pa, he passed peacefully surrounded by family on June 27, 2026. He was the son of the late Ernest A. Ellis Jr & Mary A. Ellis (nee McCormick). Ernie was preceded in death by his wife Nasira J. “Remy” Chowdhury-Ellis and by his sister Maryann “Mimi” Ellis. He is survived by his son Joshua M. Chowdhury-Ellis and by his daughter in law Celeste Sullivan of Swarthmore, Pa and his stepson Brian Leatherberry of Yeadon, Pa. In addition, he is survived by his sister Jean M. Noonan & her spouse Stephen B. Noonan, brother John C. Ellis & his spouse Barbara J. Ellis, brother Steven F. Ellis & his spouse Christine Ellis, sister Jennifer A. McNatt & her spouse Glen J. McNatt, sister Suzanna M. Garrity & her spouse Joseph D. Garrity and many nieces & nephews and great nieces & nephews.

Ernie was a union carpenter and Construction Superintendent in the Philadelphia region. His work with Sullivan Company was known, respected and appreciated by Sullivan’s team and all their clients. His ability to handle the tough jobs and see them through to completion became evident to all those involved. Ernie’s management of the work was frequently coupled to his hands-on role building many of the intricate pieces of the project. Ernie loved to design and build all sorts of components and spaces, many of them works of art, above and beyond typical construction tasks. This creative streak was evident in his work from the drawing phase to the final building details. He applied his many skills and creativity widely, whether at his job or in his woodworking and furniture projects from which so many people received the benefits. Ernie was an avid Philly sports fan, he loved and watched all the teams. What he enjoyed most though was family and he had a big one that he loved dearly, as we did him. It is hard to say goodbye but we are grateful to have called him Son, Brother, Father, Uncle, Friend and Coworker.

Family and Friends are invited to a Celebration of Life service at Logan-Videon Funeral Home, 2001 Sproul Rd Broomall, PA  19008 on Thursday July 9th from 6-8:00 P.M.
