Ella “Sue” Wiersma Obituary

Ella “Sue” Wiersma, 88, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord on April 2, 2026. She was born on August 21, 1937, in Beaver, West Virginia, and built a life marked by faith, devotion, and love.

Sue spent her career as an Executive Secretary after graduating from the Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Montclair, New Jersey. Her intelligence, steadiness, and grace made her exceptionally well-suited to her profession. Outside of work, her greatest joy came from reading her Bible and nurturing her deep relationship with the Lord. She was also an avid reader, finding comfort, inspiration, and companionship in the written word throughout her life. For many years, she was a devoted member of Sayrewoods Bible Church in Old Bridge, New Jersey.

Sue cherished time with her family—laughing, talking, and simply being together. Those moments were her happiest, and her warmth made every gathering brighter. She also loved spending time in the Poconos, where she enjoyed playing tennis and embracing the peacefulness of the mountains.

After she and her husband, Dr. Theodore “Terry” L. Wiersma, retired, they made their home in Pinehurst, North Carolina, where they enjoyed a quieter pace of life and the beauty of the community around them. In addition to their shared love of golf, they delighted in making cheesecakes, which they even sold. They also loved to travel, and their favorite destination was Vancouver, British Columbia. Sue was preceded in death by Terry, as she lovingly called him.

Sue is survived by her children: Rob (Kim) Blanda, Renee Byron (Mark Pantano), John (Rebekah) Blanda, and Jennifer (Jeff) Dietz. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Chase and Ross Byron, Analis (Jake) Arnoldy, Abby Blanda, Jack and Luke Blanda, and Sam and Matthew Dietz.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 6th, at 1:00 p.m. at Glenwood Memorial Gardens, 2321 West Chester Pike, Broomall, PA 19008, where family and friends will gather to honor her life and legacy. All who love Sue are welcome.
