Elizabeth Johnson Obituary

Elizabeth T. Johnson, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the age of 93.

Elizabeth “Bettie” of Springfield, PA—formerly of Yeadon and Southwest Philadelphia—was born on October 22, 1931, in Philadelphia, PA, to Emma and Matthew Jackson. Bettie was the youngest of seven children. She graduated from West Catholic High School for Girls and began her career working in an office. However, she soon realized her interests lay elsewhere and eventually launched a successful career as a broker with Carr Real Estate.

On November 8, 1952, Bettie married the love of her life, Richard C. Johnson. Together, they had seven children. Bettie and Rich shared a deep love for each other, their family, and their cherished home in Sea Isle City, NJ, where they spent much of their time. They enjoyed many trips together, including frequent visits to the casinos in Atlantic City.

In addition to raising their large family, Bettie and Rich owned and operated a successful business—Johnson’s Auto Repair—and Bettie handled a substantial number of real estate transactions throughout her career. Bettie made Rich better, and he made her better. They were married for over 67 years, and their love for each other was evident to all who knew them. Together, they created a lifetime of wonderful memories with family and friends in both Springfield and Sea Isle City.

Bettie loved her family dearly and was a constant source of support. She was known for her strong faith, compassion, generosity, and kindness. She took great joy in the accomplishments of her grandchildren and was always proud of them. One of her most beloved sayings, often shared with her family, was: “Bless yourself and be good”—a reflection of her deep belief in charity, kindness, and spreading love and joy.

Bettie is predeceased by her daughter Marie Johnson, son Stephen Johnson, husband Richard C. Johnson, grandson Michael C. Johnson Jr., and granddaughter-in-law Tiffany Johnson.

She is survived by her brother-in-law Charlie (Kathy) and sister-in-law Claire Johnson. Bettie is also survived by her children: Richard Jr., Michael (Karen), Joseph (Linda), Kathleen Brennan (Terence), and Bill (Amy), her 11 grandchildren: Kelly Comly (Bill), (Kristen), Joey, Megan McCaffery (Kevin), Ryan (Gina), Kevin, Marie (Dave), Kyle, Billy, Erin, Abbey (Ryan), and Brianna. Her legacy continues further through her eleven great-grandchildren: Colette, Connor, Haley, Braeden, Grace, Ryan, Sloane, Mason, Joey, Mia, and Ashlyn. Bettie’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren affectionately called her “Tee.”

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Elizabeth’s viewing from 9:30 A.M. to 11:15 A.M. and Funeral Mass at 11:30 A.M. on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 136 Saxer Avenue, Springfield, PA 19064. Interment will follow at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, 1600 Sproul Road, Springfield, PA 19064.
