Elizabeth Dwyer Obituary

It is with profound sadness that the family of Elizabeth "Betty" Dwyer, 85, of Freedom Village, Coatesville, announces her peaceful passing surrounded by her children on June 5, 2025.

Born August 11, 1939, in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late George and Helen Schmiedel.  Betty was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband of 42 years, Michael Dwyer as well as her loving sisters, Carol Barker and Kathy Kleinman.  She is survived by her two brothers, who always made her laugh, George (Rosemary) Schmiedel and Jimmy (Susana) Schmiedel.

Betty is also survived by and will be dearly missed by her children:  Elizabeth (Michael) Rudy of Chester Springs, PA, Nancy (Sheldon) Smith of Gettysburg, PA, and Michael (Abby) Dwyer, Jr. of Ashburn, VA.   In addition, she is survived by her 7 grandsons and 1 granddaughter: Tyler Smith, Michael Rudy Jr., Brandon Smith, Derek Rudy, Justin Smith, Jordan Rudy, Michael Dwyer III, Marshall Dwyer and two great-grandchildren: Elliott and Micah Smith.

Betty was a devoted wife to her husband and the most amazing mother and grandmother.  She loved traveling all over the world, flower-arranging, singing, baking cakes, helping others and spending time with her many friends; but the happiest times in her life were when she was with her family.

Betty had an amazing personality and had the "gift of gab".  She used this gift to help others working as a volunteer in a nursing home for several years just talking with the residents and making them laugh and feel loved.  She volunteered with the Head Start program in her children's elementary school where she also tutored children.  She also volunteered for the UMLY Swim Team, Brownies, and Girl Scouts, and any activities that her children were involved in.  In addition, she was an editor for the local newspaper, The Suburban, for a few years.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Mass 10:30 A.M. Monday, June 16, 2025 at St. Elizabeth's Church, 110 St. Elizabeth Drive, Chester Springs, PA  19425.  The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:15 A.M. at the Church also.  Interment at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, family prefers contributions be made in memory of Betty to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, PO Box 22324, New York, NY 10087.  https://givenow.lls.org/
