Donald Joseph Manz MD passed away peacefully on August 23, 2023, with his devoted wife Anna of 68 years and children by his side. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and mentor; greatly loved by his family. Even at the most difficult times in his life, he remained kind to all, with a generous and humble heart.
Donald was born on January 29, 1930, to Anna and Leo Manz of Upper Darby. In his early teens, he enjoyed taking transportation from the 69th Street Station, to Shibe Park, just to wait outside for autographs from the Phillies. A little later in life, Donald would travel from the same station to attend Villanova University. He was also a proud graduate of West Catholic High School and Jefferson Medical School.
Donald met the love of his life, Anna, during medical school in Philadelphia. After graduation he served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force and then went onto specialize in Pathology at Episcopal Hospital. Finally, Donald was employed as a beloved Pathologist at Holy Redeemer Hospital for many years.
One of Donald’s interests was sailing a Sunfish on various lakes, but that didn’t compare to the joy he found riding the waves at the Jersey shore. During the summer of his high school years, Donald worked on the Ocean City Boardwalk flipping pancakes. His love of the ocean continued to include joyful times with his children and grandchildren. He also had a great appreciation for music, especially classical music, and opera.
Donald is survived by his wife Anna (nee Yungwirth), his children Joanna Manz Sell VMD, Donna Manz Bailey (Robert), Paul J. Manz (Deborah), Christopher R. Manz (Patricia) and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as other close family members. He is preceded in death by his loving parents, dear brother Robert L. Manz and angel baby Donald.
