Donald R. Vanderslice

Donald R. Vanderslice, known affectionately as Don, Donnie, and Poppy to his loved ones, passed away on June 4, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on April 20, 1938, in Philadelphia, PA, he lived a full and vibrant life, mostly in Folcroft, with Ridley Township as his kingdom, until his final days in Clifton Heights, PA, where he was surrounded by the family he so deeply cherished.

Don was a devoted husband to his wife, Alice Vanderslice (nee Vance), with whom he shared a lifetime of love and memories. The family they built together includes their daughter, Donna Young (married to Jay), and their son, Steven. Don took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to Adam (Lauren), Bryan (Kristen), John III (Jade), Patrick (Holly), and Rachel Mullen (Paul). His joy was further multiplied by his great-grandchildren, Jocelynn, Athan, Betty, Livie, Alice, Mason, Liam, Theo, Noah, Arden, and Lily, all of whom he adored.

Don's journey through life was marked by his passion for cars and his dedication to his business. After graduating from John Bartram High School in 1956, he went on to become a skilled and respected mechanic, earning certification as a PA State Inspection specialist for automobiles. His expertise and work ethic as a business owner was well-known in his community, and he was always willing to lend a hand.

Throughout his life, Don's love for cars was more than just a career; it was a hobby, and a pastime that brought him great joy. He would call out the year of the cars he would see on TV shows.  His favorite was to pick out how they changed the car during stunts on "The Dukes of Hazzard," pointing out that the tail lights were different.

Don was also a member of the Ridley Businessmen Association.  He enjoyed being a part of the Ridley community and contributing to helping others.  

Don's legacy is one of love, hard work, and dedication to his family and his business. He was known for his kind heart, his big smile, and as an all-around friendly guy to all who knew him. The world has lost a memorable man whose impact made him a bit of a legend to some, and while he may be gone in body, his presence will forever be felt by those who were fortunate enough to know him. Don will be deeply missed, yet fondly remembered.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, June 13, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Logan-Videon Funeral Home, 2001 Sproul Rd., Broomall, PA 19008.

Words of Remembrance will take place at 1:00 PM at the Funeral Home.
