David Laughlin Obituary

David Patrick Laughlin, 63, of West Chester, PA, passed away on September 3, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, love, and craftsmanship. Born in Davenport, Iowa, to Jack and Sallyanne Laughlin, David lived a vibrant life across Iowa, Illinois, Connecticut, and Arizona before settling in West Chester, PA.

A dynamic athlete in his youth, David excelled in baseball, football, and ice hockey. His curiosity for “how things work” led him to a fulfilling career, first in the autobody industry and later in medical device assembly. In 1981, a tragic car accident left David with severe injuries, including the loss of both legs. Against all odds, his determination and willpower fueled a remarkable recovery resulting in an amazing comeback. With his father’s support, he co-founded D&D Body Works (now known as 3D Collision Centers) in 1984 with a friend, building a thriving business. He later worked at Bavarian Collision, VJ Coachworks, Sat Pads, and Envision Collision, where he was renowned as one of the area’s finest autobody technicians, known for his patience and exceptional quality.

David’s passions extended beyond work. A self-proclaimed foodie, he loved grilling steaks, burgers, and seafood for friends, family, and coworkers. His love for classic cars saw him restoring them, often singing Rush’s “Tom Sawyer” or tunes by Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, and Boston while tinkering in his garage and at work. An avid fan of Chicago’s Bears, Cubs, and Blackhawks, David also cherished annual trips to the Preakness Stakes in Baltimore with his brothers & friends. Later in life, he embraced boating, water skiing (on a boogie board), and jet skiing.

Known for his empathy, humor, and boundless generosity, David was just a lovable guy who’d give the shirt off his back to help another. His caring and loving nature touched everyone he met.

David is survived by his mother, Sallyanne; sister, Caroline; brothers, John, Tom, and Patrick; and nieces, Kate, Georgia, and Tara. He was predeceased by his father, Jack, and brother Chris.

David’s warmth, resilience, and passion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Slán go fóill, David.
