David Bohannon Obituary

On June 10, 2021, David E. Bohannon passed away in Greensboro, NC.  He was 97 years old.  He lived a long and loving life.  He devoted his life to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ and to the Blessed Mother of God.

Dave is preceded in death by his first wife Dorothy C. (McCarron) and his second wife of 52 years, Helen J. (Fenton) Bohannon, his beloved grandson Cooper J. Lowe, his brothers William H., Phillip, and John J. "Jack"; his sisters Mary Lou McCardle, Elanor McKenzie and Gloria R. Wilson.  His sons-in-law William Sheridan and Edward Cearly and daughter-in-law Veronica (Mainart) Bohannon.  

Dave is survived by his son David Bohannon, daughters Dorothy A. (Bohannon) Sheridan, Jacqueline (Bohannon) Lowe and husband Grant, Ellen (Panepinto) DiGennaro and husband Michael, Toni (Panepinto) Cearly.  Also survived by 9 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren.  Loving brother of Robert C. and Gerald A. (Burr).  Also survived by many nieces and nephews.  

Dave was born in Philadelphia on April 5, 1924 to Charles A. Bohannon and Noretta K. (Sheehan) Bohannon (PAPPY & MAMMY BO).  He is a graduate of West Catholic High School for Boys Class of 1942.  He joined the US Navy Air Corp October October 28, 1942 and served as a bow gunner and aviation ordinance man 3rd Class.  During World War II he was a member of Patrol Squad VPB-215 and flew anti-submarine missions over the North Atlantic Ocean.  He was honorable discharged on February 15, 1946.  

Dave played American Legion Baseball as a player/manager for the Blackenberg-Brennan Post 876 in the semi-pro Penn-Del League.  He played football for West Catholic H.S. and the Kingsessing Shamrocks Pop Warner 175 lb. football team, in Southwest Philadelphia .  He was co-captain of the Shamrocks and the 1942 Pop Warner's Sportsman of the year.  He was an avid Phillies, Eagles and Flyers fan.  While living in Greensboro, NC, he was a season ticket/seat license holder for the Carolina Panthers.  Dave was a supervisor at Oscar Mayer in Philadelphia.  Assistant Plant Manager/Corporate Quality Control Director of Mrs. Paul's in Philadelphia.  The Campbell Soup Company bought Mrs. Paul's in 1972 and Dave was named Plant Manager of a new Philadelphia Plant.  His successes were many including the Presidential Award for outstanding service from both Mrs. Paul's in 1970 and the Campbell Soup Company in 1988.  He retired from Campbell Soup in 1989 after 40 years of service in the food industry.  

While living in Magnolia, NJ, Dave was very active with the Glendora Girl's Athletic League of Glendora, NJ. - Glover Field Sports Complex, Gloucester Township Parks & Recreation Council and St. Gregory's Roman Catholic Church in Magnolia, NJ.  

Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 10, 2021 at St. Madeline's Roman Catholic Church, 110 Park Street, Ridley Park, PA  19078.
