Charles Gamble, 88 of Broomall, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, May 23, 2022.
He was the son of the late Charles and Annie (nee Alexander) Gamble, brother of the late James Gamble, William Gamble, and Elizabeth Henry (nee Gamble), and brother-in-law to the late Frances Gamble, Hugh Henry, and George Russell.
Survivors: His loving wife: Edythe Joyce Gamble (nee McFadden); his children: Kirstie (Gordon) Roth, and Andrew (Betsy) Gamble; his grandchildren: Adam Roth, Naomi Roth, Shawn Gamble, and Mia Gamble; his sisters: Fanny Russell (nee Gamble) and Kathleen (George) Thomas; and many nieces and nephews.
Born on April 26, 1934, in the town of Churchill within County Donegal, Ireland, Charlie immigrated to the United States in 1961, only knowing he had a job and one of his sisters, Lily, in a new country. A few years later he began a long and successful career as an electrician for the Philadelphia Electric Company (PECO). After retiring from PECO, Charlie continued working as the head of maintenance at Lima Estates for another 10 years before finally fully retiring.
Charlie met his wife, Joyce, at an Irish dance in Philadelphia. They got married on September 6, 1969, and began their family with the births of Kirstie and Andrew. Later in life, Charlie loved spending time with their four grandchildren: Shawn, Mia, Adam, and Naomi.
Additionally, he was especially proud of his American citizenship. In 2021, he celebrated 60 years in the United States.
Charlie’s legacy was found through his quiet faith, incredible work ethic, strong desire to provide educational opportunities for his children, and most of all, unwavering commitment, dedication, and love for his family (both immediate and extended).
