Carol Hoyt Obituary

Carol Ann (Scanlin) Hoyt, passed away on April 17, 2026, in Media, Pennsylvania, at the age of 77.

Born on December 25, 1948, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Robert Alan and Ethel Violet (Haslett) Scanlin. Carol grew up with a strong sense of family, faith, and community that would remain with her throughout her life. She was a proud graduate of Upper Darby High School, Class of 1967, and carried the friendships and values of those early years with her always.

Carol was the beloved wife of the late John “Skip” Buckley Hoyt, Jr., with whom she shared her devotion, laughter, and steadfast love. Carol's family was the center of her world. She is survived by her children, Janet A. (Younger) Rothwell and her husband, Kevin, of Roswell, Georgia, and their children, Olivia M. and Kylin A. Rothwell; Laura L. (Younger) Dietrich and her husband, John, of Gainesville, Virginia, and their daughter, Lauren S. Dietrich; and Todd J. Younger and his wife, Abigail Blake Younger, of Media, Pennsylvania, and their children, Travis J. and Austin B. Younger. Carol also leaves behind her nephew, Patrick A. Scanlin. She was predeceased by her brother, the late Richard A. Scanlin.

Carol devoted more than 25 years of service as a school bus driver for the Rose Tree Media School District. In that role, she was a familiar and reassuring presence to generations of children and families, always dependable, caring, and attentive. Her work reflected the same selfless spirit that guided every part of her life. She understood the importance of showing up for others, and she did so with patience, kindness, and a warm sense of humor.

Faith was central to Carol’s life. She was active in Middletown Church, where she served as a Deacon and gave generously of her time and heart. Her church family was important to her, and she found joy in serving others through her faith. She also volunteered to drive people to doctor appointments and to help wherever she was needed, never hesitating to lend a hand. Carol lived her beliefs through action, and those who knew her saw in her a quiet but powerful example of compassion and grace.

Carol treasured her friends deeply and valued every connection she made. She was known for her loyalty, her quick wit, and her ability to bring laughter into any room. She was also proud to share her beloved dog, Mariah, with others by taking her to different agencies as a comfort dog, offering smiles and comfort to many.

Retirement did not slow Carol down. She remained very busy and embraced new interests with energy and enthusiasm. She took up golfing, bicycling, pickleball, and kayaking, enjoying each opportunity to stay active and try new things. She approached life with a sense of fun and curiosity, and she inspired others by the way she continued to make the most of every season of life.

Carol will be remembered as a faith-filled, selfless, and funny woman whose presence brought comfort, joy, and steadiness to those around her. Her love for her family was unwavering, and her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the lessons she taught, and the memories she created. Though she will be deeply missed, her life stands as a beautiful testament to devotion, service, and the enduring strength of a loving heart.
