Carl Benner, Jr. Obituary

Carl A. Benner, Jr., known affectionately as Gus by his loved ones and friends, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2024, at the age of 71 in Media, Pennsylvania. Born on March 31, 1952, in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, he was a cherished son to the late Carl A., Sr. and Dorothy A. (Burnet) Benner. A devoted family man, Gus shared a loving marriage of over fifty years with his beloved wife, Deborah A. "Debbie" (Noonkester) Benner, after uniting in matrimony on October 6, 1973.

Gus's legacy continues through his children: Carl A. Benner, III and his wife, Erin A. of Media, PA; Megan A. (Benner) Cash and her husband, Donald "Dee" of St. Cloud, FL; John T. Benner and his wife, Alexandria R. of Media, PA; and Devon E. (Benner) Smith and her husband, Todd of Sequatchie, TN. He was a proud grandfather to thirteen grandchildren: Grace, Henry, Clare, Emily, Eli, Emmett, Ezra, John, Jr., Walter, Victor, Rowan, Lily, and Tucker. Gus is also survived by his siblings, Jeffrey Benner of Marmora, NJ, and Susan (Benner) Orzol of Wilmington, DE.

A proud graduate of Marple Newtown High School, Gus furthered his education at Delaware County Community College, where he gained the knowledge that would later contribute to his professional success. Fourth-generation owner and operator of John Benner Painting, a family business that not only painted homes but also colored the lives of the community with dedication and excellence. He ran the business for 25 years before he handed it over to his son, John making him the fifth-generation owner of the successful family business.

An active participant in his community, Gus was involved in various associations, such as the Lansdowne Lodge Number 711, F&A Masons and the Rotary Club where he shared his expertise and passion for his trade. He was an integral part of the creation of the Broomall Rotary Field on Lawrence Rd. His commitment to his work was paralleled by his commitment to his community, making him a respected figure both professionally and personally.

Outside of work, Gus relished the time spent with family and friends. His interests were as varied as they were engaging, ranging from weekend barbecues to sharing stories of his latest projects. He was a man who found joy in life's simple pleasures, whether it was a quiet evening with Debbie or a raucous game night with his grandchildren or just spending time tending to his yard. He enjoyed being outdoors whether with family or friends.

Gus's life was one of unwavering love, hard work, and service to those around him. He has left an indelible mark on the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His memory will be treasured and his lessons of kindness, generosity, and the value of a good day's work will live on.

We bid farewell to a remarkable man who taught us the importance of community, the strength of family, and the power of a friendly smile. Gus's journey on earth has ended, but his story will continue to be told through the lives he touched and the love he shared.
