Barbara Ann Bernadette "Babs" Raczkowski Obituary

Barbara Ann Bernadette "Babs" Raczkowski, a beacon of creativity and spirit, passed away on January 14, 2025, at the age of 76, after a courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer.

Born on January 3, 1949, in New Britain, Connecticut, Babs was a woman of keen intelligence and boundless energy, whose presence enriched the lives of all who knew her. Her final days were spent in Broomall, Pennsylvania, surrounded by the love and warmth of her family, friends and neighbors from "the Rock".

Babs grew up in a close-knit community in New Britain where she developed a passion for helping others, a trait that would define her professional and personal life. She pursued higher education with vigor, earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Central Connecticut State College and later, a Master of Social Work from the prestigious University of Pennsylvania. Babs's commitment to her studies was a testament to her belief in the power of education to change lives.

In the early stages of her career, Babs dedicated herself to the field of social work in Pennsylvania, where she played the crucial role of uniting babies with their adoptive parents, creating new families filled with love and hope. Her empathy and compassion during this time left a lasting impact on many lives. Later, Babs transitioned into the insurance industry, where she continued to apply her intelligence and problem-solving skills.

Babs's zest for life never waned. She pursued a wide array of interests with enthusiasm and was never afraid to dive into new hobbies. Babs found joy in the act of creation as a budding woodworker, painter, knitter, and seamstress. Her love for travel took her to many beautiful places including Germany and Australia in addition to her domestic travels. She found equal pleasure in the simple act of tending to her garden. After becoming a Master Gardener, Babs delighted in getting her hands dirty and helping her garden flourish as well as advising others on the art.

Babs is survived by her loving sister, Susan Cayer, and brother-in-law, Richard Cayer. She was a cherished aunt to nieces Jennifer Cayer and her spouse David Leng, and Lisa Peloso and her spouse Michael Peloso. Her grandnephew Graham Leng brought her immense joy. Babs also held a special place in her heart for her extended family, William Klimkiewicz and his family, Maureen Raczkowski and her family, and the Norige family who have been an integral part of her life's journey. Babs was predeceased by her parents Sophie and Henry Raczkowski.

Remembered for her intelligence, spirited nature, and creative soul, Babs approached life with the philosophy that "The only way to do great work is to love what you do," a sentiment famously expressed by Steve Jobs. This quote perfectly encapsulates the passion with which Babs lived every aspect of her life. Her legacy is one of inspiration, showing by example that it is possible to face life's adversities with grace and to pursue one's passions with relentless determination.

Babs's life story is a testament to the indomitable human spirit and the impact one person can have on the world around them. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with her. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide us, as we remember her not just for the battles she fought, but for the love, beauty, and joy she brought into our lives.
