Barbara (Gardner) Colby, a volunteer for many causes, and longtime resident of Lexington, Massachusetts prior to moving to West Chester, Pennsylvania, died at the age of 92.
She was born in Boston, MA and graduated from Lowell High School. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from Simmons College. After marrying her husband George, they moved to Arizona with the U.S. Army. While there, Barbara worked in the office of the Command and General Staff at Fort Huachuca. Shortly after moving back to the east coast, the family settled in Lexington.
Barbara was involved in many volunteer activities. These included Board Member of the Eastern Massachusetts Literacy Council, where she also served as a tutor, and being a founding member of Lexington Citizens for Conservation and of FISH. She also volunteered for Girl Scouts and was a tutor in the Lexington schools.
Barbara worked in several companies and roles including the Raytheon corporate office as part of the executive assistant staff.
Barbara and George moved to West Chester in 2007 and became active in Hershey’s Mill where they created a newsletter for their village and founded a discussion group on national affairs.
She leaves her devoted husband, George, her son, George V. Colby, III (Celina) of Hampton, NH, a daughter, Ann Colby-Cummings (Harry) of West Chester, PA and a daughter, Catherine C. Sanders (Dan) of Dracut, MA as well as five beloved grandchildren.
Friends are invited to a Memorial Gathering with a light reception to follow on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Logan Funeral Home, Inc., 392 Lancaster Ave., Malvern, PA 19355. (PLEASE USE THE CHURCH ROAD ENTRANCE). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara’s memory to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
