Arthur "Art" Robert Heidel
Norristown, PA - Arthur "Art" Robert Heidel, 65, passed away on August 3, 2023, in West Norriton, PA. Born on September 11, 1957, in Norristown, PA, Art was the beloved husband of Frances M. Devine Heidel for thirty-one years. He was known to all as a person who was quick-witted and found humor in many situations. Art had a unique ability to infer deep-seated meanings that others might miss.
Art is survived by his loving wife, Frances M. Devine Heidel; three sisters and two brothers; many nieces and nephews; his cherished pets, Laddie and Bailey (dogs), Lily and Leo (cats). He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur R. Heidel Sr and Frances Virginia Schwemmer Heidel, his sister Elizabeth Jean Heidel, and his brother Martin Heidel, all of whom he deeply missed.
Art attended St. Patrick School and Rittenhouse Jr High School in Norristown. He attended Norristown High School in West Norriton, for a short time. After leaving high school, Art served honorably, in the United States Navy, for four years, aboard the USS Pensacola. He continued his service in the Naval Reserves for an additional two years at the Naval base in Little Creek, Virginia. During his time in the Navy, Art earned his GED.
Artie learned the landscaping business by working with his father, and his uncles, at a young age. When his father retired, Artie took over the business, and became the proprietor. He had a passion for his work, and took great pride in creating beautiful outdoor spaces, for his clients.
In his free time, Artie enjoyed watching all sports, with a particular love for the Eagles and Phillies. He also found enjoyment in wrestling, boxing, soccer, and golf. His enthusiasm for sports was infectious, he always hoped for a win by his favorite teams.
Relatives and friends are invited to his military Funeral Service at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, September 11, 2023, at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940. Please arrive at 1:45 P.M. for prayer service prior to burial. Art will be honored as a Veteran of the United States Navy, with a tribute offered by a Catholic priest. The solemn sound of Taps will resonate through the cemetery, paying tribute to his service.
In lieu of flowers, his wife kindly suggests donations to be made to the SPCA, or any organization that is dedicated to the welfare of animals. Contributions to Depression support groups are also appreciated, as Art was passionate about mental health advocacy.
Art Heidel will be remembered as a loving husband, who was always there for his wife, and pets. His quick wit, and ability to find humor, in any situation, will be dearly missed by all who knew him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
