Angela Afilani Obituary

Angela G. Afilani - October 16, 1963 - May 2, 2022 - 58 of Yeadon, passed peacefully on May 2nd, 2022 with her sisters at her side. Beloved daughter to the late Angelo and Rita Afilani, and GSD named Jet, the loving and devoted companion who crossed into the rainbow June, 2020. Survived by her dear sisters, Alice Ciccarelli, (George, the best brother-in-law), Frances, Rita and her favorite niece Carmella. Also survived by her cat - Starvin, who was anything but with a full dish every day.

Angela was baptized in Saint Louis parish, where she also attended the parochial school, and was a 1982 graduate of Yeadon High School. Angela worked at Super Fresh Markets for 24 years until health issues forced her to retire. She later worked for the records department of the Havertown Police Department. During her retirement, Angela volunteered at Blessed Virgin Mary rectory in Darby, where she was the receptionist for “the big guy,” Monsignor Joseph Corley. After his passing, Angela became a curator at her beloved Saint Louis Church. She especially enjoyed decorating the church for the holidays.

As an avid sports enthusiast and fan, she enjoyed her Philadelphia teams, especially the Phillies and Flyers. Growing up, she was inspired by the infamous Flyers Stanley Cup years. So much so, her parents bought her an official size goalie net for the entire neighborhood to enjoy and play street hockey with. This net was so big to her, it took two to carry all the time. Angela was the player you wanted on your team. You knew you were going to get the most energetic athlete in the neighborhood. Whether it was toughing it out with a skinned knee or a bruised elbow, she was a consummate athlete, teammate, and friend. She did this as a 50 year wilms tumor survivor. Angela and her dear friend Janiene, shared in this experience together.

She was thankful to have witnessed her Phillies win the World Series twice. Her fan enthusiasm for the Flyers carried on as she shared many years as a season ticket holder with her sister Rita. The Spectrum was like a second sanctuary (to Saint Louis) for them.

Angela had a fine talent for cooking, and of course this came from her mother first. She shared her gourmet delights with her Facebook friends. We all hoped there was going to be an invitation to the meal, but we were all left just salivating. Many of you got to know her more with the social media platform. This was her way of being an awesome communicator. It wasn’t always good news to read about her sports teams, but you knew her passions and we also learned of her journeys.

Over the years Angela enjoyed many dear Yeadon and Delaware County friends, neighbors, and acquaintances. So many were touched by Angela and her life and all are grateful to have known her. You are now in His gentle arms - rest easy faithful Yeadonite.
