Michael S. McCarney

Michael Shawn McCarney, passed away at the age of 56. 

Michael (Mike) was a lifelong carpenter who loved to work with his hands, loved the Eagles and Phillies and was an overall Philadelphia sports fanatic.  A music lover who was a multi-talented guitar player and loved to play and sing, especially Led Zeppelin.  He loved reading the newspaper every day and was also a creative chef who loved a bagel with peanut butter and melted American cheese, lunch meat and cheese sandwiches with lettuce and Italian salad dressing among other things.

He also loved the zoo and spending long summer days on the beach in Wildwood Crest at the Grand Hotel.  When relaxing at home he enjoyed watching movies, especially comedies or country westerns.

Mike was handsome, fun, happy and enjoyed a good time, including showing off his interesting dance moves, BBQ’ing with friends and family and playing horseshoes.  He was always kind to others and his smile was memorable, his laugh infectious.    

He is known for memorable sayings and referred to himself as ‘Poppa Dukes’ and ‘Daddio’ to his children.  Mike loved to use the phrase “cool beans” and “You know I had to give ‘em the ‘what for”.

Most of all he was a wonderful Dad and Grandpop - compassionate, loving, a hardworking provider, passionate about his family, his work and his dogs and always so very proud of his family, especially his children.

He is survived by his loving children Falisha McCarney, Crystal (Matthew) Pratt and Michael McCarney.  Grandchildren: Kaily, James, Thomas, Audrey and Hunter.  His parent's James (Joan) McCarney and Phyllis (the late Robert Marquette) McCarney.  His Brother's Gerald (Chris) McCarney and Dean (Ann) McCarney.   His nieces and nephews: Jacqueline, Jennifer, Erin, Liam, Maura, Kieran, Colleen, Danielle, Danny, Kelly Anne, Megan, Shawn, Shanen, Stephanie, Stacy, Samantha, Ashley and Antoinette.  Also survived by his former wife Desire McCarney

Predeceased by his Grandparent's Maternal: Walton & Helen Machleid (maternal) and James & Margaret McCarney (paternal).

Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects from 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM Saturday, December 30, 2017 at St Cyril of Alexandria Church, 153 Penn Blvd., East Lansdowne, PA 19050.  All are welcome to attend his Funeral Mass at St Cyril of Alexandria Church, following the viewing, at 10:00 AM.

 Interment is private.
