Marie E. (Devine) Casciato

Born on November 14, 1937, Marie Ellen Casciato spent her early years growing up in Philadelphia.  She was a 1955 graduate of West Catholic High School, finishing her education at Misericordia Nursing School in 1958.  She went on to practice nursing at Misericordia Hospital until she and Lou had children, but never lost her love of the profession.  

After moving to Yeadon and then West Chester, Marie quietly continued to care for neighbors when necessary and provided community nursing services for several years.  She and Lou were active members in St. Louis Parish and CYO and have been regarded as dear friends and neighbors to many people over the years.   

Marie loved traveling and spending time with her children Karen Monaghan, Louis, Maryann Koskinen and Kathleen Leppert  and their families (Mike, Jim, Jeff, Kate, Dan, Sarah, Brian, Matt, Rachel, Rebecca, and Emma). She enjoyed summer vacations in Wildwood and Stone Harbor, reading good mysteries, playing Scrabble, and testing the luck of the Irish at games of chance with her son Louie.  She also loved spending time with her brothers Jack and Jimmy, her sisters in heart, Ann and Kathy, and with her good friends.  

Marie’s strength and love carried her family through the loss of her son, Louis Jr. (2015) and her husband Louis (2017). Throughout her own medical struggles, she defied the odds with great dignity until her death on January 10th, 2019, surrounded as ever by the family and friends she loved.

Marie’s vigil will be held at Logan Funeral Home, 698 East Lincoln Highway, Exton PA on Tuesday, January 15th from 6-8pm.  Her life and spirit will be celebrated at her Funeral  Liturgy at Ss. Peter and Paul Church , 1325 Boot Rd, West Chester, PA on Wednesday January 16th at 10:30 AM with Visitation  from 9:30-10:15.  Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Yeadon, PA.  Donations in her honor can be made to Camilla Hall, 1145 W King Rd, Malvern, Pa. 19355.
