John J Dougherty Jr., of N. Wildwood, formerly of Yeadon and South West Philadelphia, passed away on Friday, January 3rd after reaching the age of 83 years old. After months of battling cancer, he passed peacefully in his sleep.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Joan (nee Kelly) Dougherty; their three children Karen, John (Janet) and Stephen; four grandchildren Danielle, Ryan, Kayla, and Ava; and a host of nieces, nephews and other beloved friends and relatives.
Upon graduating West Catholic HS and attending Temple University, John enlisted in the US Navy. He served his country proudly and was a steadfast patriot.
John was a pillar in the Yeadon athletics community, coaching a plethora of sports. Known as “Coach Doc” throughout his coaching career, he inspired many young athletes both on and off the field.
He was an avid hunter and accomplished fisherman. After retirement, he enjoyed fishing for flounder in the back bays of Wildwood with his wife and first mate, Joan.
A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, January 9th at 11:00 A.M. at Notre Dame de la Mer (formerly St. Ann's). 2901 Atlantic Ave , Wildwood, NJ 08260. A Visitation will also be held at the Church prior to the Funeral Mass 9-10:45 A.M. Interment Private
