McGETTIGAN, Jeannette (nee Iannettoni), 87, of Upper Darby, PA, on February 7, surrounded by her family. She was born in South Philadelphia, the third of four children of the late Frances (nee Pernaci) and Arduino “Harry“ Iannettoni. Predeceased by spouse, Richard J. McGettigan. Also predeceased by brothers Dominic and Richard Iannettoni.
Graduate of Hallahan H.S. While attending Misericordia (Mercy Philadelphia) Hospital School of Nursing, she was introduced to Richard McGettigan, the brother of her classmate’s boyfriend. The nursing students married the brothers. Thus began a lifelong double-date between the couples, spending time with families in Sea Isle City, NJ, holidays, and even traveling to Europe together. Upon 1952 graduation and R.N. degree, she worked at Misericordia Hospital for two years, primarily in pediatric nursing. Richard and Jeannette married in 1954 and were together until his death in 2012.
Quiet and kind, Jeannette’s home and six children were her passions. Each Sunday, she prepared an Italian meal for her children and guests. She was active in St. Joseph’s Prep Mother’s Club and the Archbishop Prendergast Parent-Teacher Association, serving as president for a year. She also continued her nursing career, part time, as office nurse in a private ob-gyn practice. For twenty years, she worked full-time as a nurse in the Federal Health Unit under Dept of HHS, retiring as its Charge Nurse in 1999.
She is survived by her loving children John F. II (Kazina), Maureen F., Karin R., Neil J. II (Judi), Deirdre J. Henry (James), Megan Rolli (Andrew). Mrs. McGettigan is also survived by her grandchildren: Andrew and Kaelyn Henry, Richard II, Jacqueline, and Jocelyn McGettigan.; her beloved sister, Archangela Guarino; 34 nieces and nephews; cousin Lucy Amellio, of Syracuse, NY; and sister-in-law, Ruth McGettigan.
