Bern V. Gawley

Bern V. Gawley of Malvern, PA, passed away on March 2, 2018 at the age of 84.

Bern was the adored husband and best friend to, Margaret A (Hobbs) Gawley; they shared 57 wonderful years of marriage.  He grew up in St. Clair, PA where he excelled in academics and athletics, earning a scholarship to Moravian College.  He served his country faithfully in the US Navy, and enjoyed a successful 33 year career with Brown and Williamson Corporation before retiring as a Senior Vice President.   In his retirement, he was an avid golfer and twice scored a hole in one.  He enjoyed reading, history documentaries and had an aptitude for painting.  Bern’s greatest joy was spending time with his family, children, and grandchildren including summer vacations in Stone Harbor and years spent wintering with his wife in their Palm City, FL home.  

Bern’s spirit and kind wisdom lives on in the loving legacy left with his wife Peggy, his daughter Kelly Gawley (Matt Ostertag), his son Jeffrey Gawley (Maarja Berens), as well as his four grandchildren Megan Ostertag, Michael Ostertag, Devon Gawley, and Maiya Gawley. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass Friday, March 9, 2018, 10:30 AM at SS. Philip & James Church, corner of Rt. # 30 & Ship Rds., Exton, PA 19341, where friends may call from 9:30 to 10:15 AM Friday at the church prior to Mass.  Interment is private.  In lieu of flowers family prefers donations in Bern's name to a charity of your own choice.
