Martha Jane Murray, 99, of Darby, PA, formerly of Philadelphia, PA, and Yeadon, PA, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2024. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Martha Jane Murray (better known as Jane), retired early from her “downtown” Philadelphia job to help raise her young nephew and niece after the loss of their mother, creating a loving and secure home. Not only was she a devoted aunt/mother but a devoted sister as well, living with and later caring for her brother and sister in their final years.
Aside from her home responsibilities, Jane enjoyed reading, vacationing with family at the Jersey Shore, and later, traveling with friends to farther destinations. She shared stories of all her travels, and in the days before email and texts, would always send postcards. She cherished her many strong friendships - some long-time from Philadelphia and Delaware County, others more recent from Little Flower Manor Nursing Home.
Jane led a life of love and service built on the foundation of her faith in God, letting her faith guide her on everything from daily concerns and decisions to facing challenges and loss. Her faith was a source of comfort and hope, and through this lens she delighted in the small and big comings and goings of her family and friends. Her family also took comfort in knowing that their “Aunt Jane” was praying for them – for anything on their minds.
Jane was predeceased by her parents, George and Marie (Elliot) Murray, her brother, George Murray Jr., her sister, Eleanor Murray, and her nephew, George Murray III. Surviving are her niece and nephew-in-law, Mary and Daniel Duffy; her grandnieces and grandnephews, Christine and James Stansbury, Janellen and David Wagner, Maura and Brian Keating, Daniel and Bridget Duffy, and Brendan and Amanda Duffy; and her great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews, Jack and Jimmy Stansbury, Will, Henry, and Charlie Wagner, Beau and Sam Keating, Cecilia, Eve, and Colin Duffy, and Quinn Duffy.
