Anthony A. Lyle, 79, died on October 27, in his apartment, on Rittenhouse Square, from a heart attack. He was mourning the loss of his partner of 45 years, James N. Clark, who passed away in February due to complications from Parkinson's Disease.

Mr. Lyle graduated from the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania in 1961. During his time at the university, he was a member of the Alpha Chi Rho fraternity and edited The Daily Pennsylvanian. The Wharton Report, The Wharton MBA, the English department's Newsletter, and the alumni publications for the Graduate School of Education and the School of Social Work were publications that he edited and wrote for when he joined Penn's development office in 1963.
In 1971, Mr. Lyle became the editor of The Pennsylvania Gazette. While he was editor, the magazine won two Robert Sibley Awards, (1981 and 1983), for "Magazine of the Year", the nation's top prize in alumni magazine publishing. The Pennsylvania Gazette was also regularly included in the top ten alumni magazines by the Council for the Advancement of Support of Education (CASE) and Newsweek magazine.

Anthony retired in 1995 from the University of Pennsylvania after 31 years of service. He spent 24 of those years with The Pennsylvania Gazette.
Tony started volunteering at Calcutta House, an AIDS hospice, in the early 1980's.  He was a board member, with his partner Jim Clark. They would go every Saturday and cook breakfast for the residents, wash dishes, and clean up.  This was the beginning of Calcutta house.  Tony and Jim were there to see it transform from a small row home, where they would help several people, to something bigger. It grew into something that could help many more people, and Tony was one of the people who supported their growth.
He also loved to travel, with his partner Jim, and has been around the globe. They have spent time in Croatia, Italy, Puerto Rico, Puerto Vallarta, Greece, Ireland, only to mention a few.
Tony was born in Lewistown, PA on July 4, 1936.

He is survived by his sister, Teresa Lyle Kennedy, his niece Alison Lyle Flowers, and his grand nieces, Katie Flowers, Amber Darnell, Brooke Darnell.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Anthony at a Funeral Mass to be held Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2015, 10:30 AM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 20th & Locust Sts., Phila., Pa 19103, where friends may call from 9:00 AM to 10:15 AM Tuesday at the church.  Interment at Laurel Hill Cemetery, 3822 Ridge Ave., Phila., PA 19132.  In his memory, contributions may be made to Curtis Institute of Music, 1726 Locust St., Phila., PA 19103 or Calcutta House, 1601 W. Girard Ave., Phila., PA  19130.
